Now and Then: Becoming a Transformative Selfobject

For our inaugural session, we’ll revisit Daphne Socarides’ and Robert Stolorow’s seminal 1984 paper, Affects and Selfobjects, in light of Steven Stern’s chapter, Breathing Together: Complex Selfobjects and Therapeutic Action, from his recent book, Airless Worlds and the Restoration of Psychic Breathing.
Steve will present some thoughts comparing his current chapter with Stolorow’s and Socarides’ 1984 paper. Peter Kaufmann will then offer a short discussion, followed by open discussion by all attendees.
