General Information
The program for this 32nd Annual International Conference on The Psychology of The Self seeks to expand on forward edge as a theory and practice in self psychology. The conference will honor the clinical contributions of Marian Tolpin, discuss the latest neuroscience advances in understanding empathy, present a clinical case with self psychological and relational perspectives and present a panel on cultural diversity.
On Thursday, full-day and half-day Pre-Conference Sessions will allow participants to choose morning and afternoon sessions that approach the theme from different perspectives. After a welcome reception on Thursday evening, the main meeting begins with a keynote lecture entitled "Reflections on Marian Tolpin and the Forward Edge" by Frank Lachmann.
Panel presentations begin Friday morning and continue on Saturday, with a summation of the panels on Sunday morning. Panel I will focus on Empathy and the Forward Edge: 21st Century Perspectives on Empathy; Panel II will highlight "The Forward Edge of Theory: Self Psychology and Relational Responses to a Clinical Case"; and Panel III will address "Social Issues and Cultural Diversity: The Expanded Realm of Self Psychology". Following the second and third panels, attendees will break into small discussion groups to consider the presentations. Original paper workshop sessions are scheduled on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.
